The Airbus Catastrophy: A Design Error?

The number of pageviews of my articles on Knol have now passed 60.000 with about 3.000 per week. The overview My Book of Knols was chosen as a Best Knol of the Month of May.

It is interesting to speculate about the future of Knol and communication of knowledge in general. So far, scientists have not used Knol to spread their knowledge to the people.

Maybe they are happy to talk to themselves and publish technical articles in technical journals inaccessible to the general public, but in the new media climate of today this may not be the best strategy.

But medical specialists use Knol to give information about their speciality.

The knol Why It Is Possible to Fly reveals the true fluid dynamics of the gliding flight of airplanes and birds based on advanced computation, which is not the non-physical incorrect dynamics presented in text books. The knol has 4000 pageviews but no comment from any scientist in support of the text book fluid mechanics of flight. 

Even if the flight of an airplane, like the flight of a bumble-bee, apparently is a theoretical mystery to scientists, design engineers and pilots, many thousands of passengers enter airplanes every day in true conviction that they will be able not only to take off but also safely land at their destination. 

Of course, these days the thoughts go to the passengers of the Air France Airbus which disappeared over the Atlantic, maybe because of effects of heavy turbulence not properly accounted for in the design.

In Mathematical Theory of Flight we show that computational simulation of an airplane under critical dynamic conditions such as take-off, landing and heavy turbulence is possible, which is considered impossible in state-of-the-art.
